Q: When I buy a house, how do I find out if there is a tank on the property?

Q: My tank is under an asphalt driveway. Do I have to remove it?
A: Some towns allow abandonment in place by filling the tank with sand after cleaning. However, it better to take it out.
Q: Should we abandon in place or remove?
A: Advantage, first the main benefit of removal is that the tank is gone and never needs to be discussed again. Secondly, the tank integrity is immediately apparent. The soil is easily inspected, and soil test for additional proof of cleanliness is available at a small additional cost.
Q: Is my underground oil tank regulated?
A: State Regulations do not govern home heating oil tanks, which have not leaked. Some local jurisdiction may have requirements for home heating oil tanks. You should contact Castlton, or your city to see any regulations that apply to your heating oil tanks needs.
Q: After signing a contract how long do you have to wait for job to begin?
A: Typically, there is a one to two week wait period before a job can begin obtain. All jobs requiring permits, need to be issued and mark outs need to be called.
Q: How many days does it take to complete a UST removal?
A: It usually takes one day.
Q: What if my tank leaks?
A: Castlton will call in a spill number to to DEC or DEP depending on the state. Castlton helps with filing a claim with insurance company, and NJ residents rebate program.
Q: How do I get the rebate program?
A: Castlton helps with all paperwork and helps you get your money back.
Q: Are permits necessary?
A: Permits are necessary for tank removals and installations. CEC will be able to obtain them for you.
Q: What happens to the oil in my UST?
A: Any fuel oil left in an UST will be removed by a licensed vacuum truck and disposed at a licensed liquid disposal facility. If a tank removal is performed in conjunction with a tank installation, remaining clean fuel oil may be transferred from the old tank into the new tank.
